Time. You really don't realise how valuable it is until you run out of it. I am constantly trying to fit 30 hours into a day and its not working. Juggle, shift, reshift and cancel. Repeat. How much time is one person worth? Are others worth more? (and yes, of course) Who do you cut off? How many work hours is enough for secure that promotion? How much time off is appropriate?
It's so difficult to balance so I greatly appreciate when people are on time and say they will do something or be somewhere at a given time. Today's cake pick up was perfection. Yesterday's cake coordinator a nightmare.
I've also never appreciated 'taking time out' (i.e., a holiday) until now. When you are disconnected from the world, it is amazing how much you can do. How your thoughts reside and having 'me' time is so important. I had 2 days in lieu this week yet I feel far from refreshed. Quite the opposite in fact. Driving takes time. Baking takes time. Resting and recovering takes time.
What is the value?
I spent a whole afternoon with my grandmother today. But it is not nearly enough. I would give so many of my hours just to know that she will be well - healthy and strong - for the next few weeks while I am gone. We don't know what tomorrow will bring... today was a tough day for her. I'd also give so much to understand why (but children should be seen and not heard...).
I had lunch with my mum and sister today. Not just to get my vietnamese fix for the next few weeks but we hadn't done lunch together in a while. It's hard between jobs and errands and weekends (just imagine if I had a family of my own... :O). Marrickville is such a bustling place - I love it. Not sure I'd want a tiny terrace to live in but the area is nice.
I need to pack. And clean. And gear myself up for a bit of a culture shock. Do some research on getting around Tokyo and basic set ups like phone and transport, etc. Time time time. Maybe I need a time out?
And a few happy snaps from my last getaway:
i always knew my paternal grandmother (well, grandmothers on both sides really) was a fighter.
another winter, another scare. this time with a lung infection. thankfully nothing serious. bit of difficult breathing with the change in season and needed some oxygen. but with each year, it gets harder and harder for her and everyone tries to pitch it to make her feel better. visited her tonight and she seemed to be in good spirits but was barely eating... i even offered her my bag of chips that was my late lunch/dinner. i think she had one chip. ONE.
she's still thinking her grandkiddies are little and don't have their own jobs and need to be fed! I will always love her for that. And the secret stash of coke she always had in her shed/pad/summer room.
kudos to my 5th uncle for dialing directly into her hospital room all the way from HK. lifted her spirits muchly. so much so that she told him not to worry and that she will be checking herself out and going home tomorrow!
caught up with poh poh all night and we were shopping and talking about my new potential handbag.
i wanted the mulberry bayswater double zip $2,900
then i was convinced i wanted the mulberry willow $2,900. but that was a deal breaker because it only had handles - no shoulder strap. this was the frontrunner for the last two weeks because it had a detachable clutch... two bags for the price of one!!!
there were two colours at 30% off but weren't to my liking.....
so she suggested prada and did some research. liked the saffiano large tote - $2,500. So i went to take a look today after work since i left early. the shop, the lack of customer service (because i was not a mainlander) and all the different colours and types of bags put me off hugely. Not a fan.
So did some thinking tonight... and i think i actually want the Mulberry brand more than I want a Prada (never really liked Prada..). And surprisingly (cause I didn't know this), Mulberry is actually more expensive than Prada. I always thought Prada was up there with LV, Gucci. Wrong again.
And it brought me back to the original Mulberry Bayswater in Natural Leather in either Oak or Black. I think black because i want a black bag but i really like the oak colour too. Works out awesome, its the cheapest of the bunch. :D
Now to find someone to go overseas and get the GST back!

pretty standard to do yum cha or lunch with grandma on Saturdays.
Then spent the afternoon with mama and papa cheung!
so we went to see open houses... went to an auction and checked out another place n darlinghurst.
then arvo-teaed it at IKEA and bumped into my favourite niece and her parents :)
saturdays are clearly too short and sundays come around way too quickly.
boo!

yum cha with grandma - that me and juzzi and steph shouted. . . so we tried to eat loads and make up for it. hehehe. pretty cool.
my lil nephew is sooooooooo cute. he has a "driver's license" and he knows what to do when he gets "stopped by the cops". hahaha should have videoed it.
then decided to pick a fight with VHA for wendeh. $50 credit... hrmmm.. for about 3 hours of my time... i'll take it! better than nuttin
and then it was going to be a pretty boring, ordinary night...
except that mum was random. and like.. lets go out for siew yeh... @ chat thai!!!
whoop whoop.
so we went out at like 9:30.. and drove to the city. and got this awesome spot right outside capitol theatre and didnt even wait that long for chat thai.
had coconut ice cream and those pandan bread thingys and iced coffee and skewers. mmmmmmmmmm goood.
left just as mary poppins was finishing... oooh i know that feeling when those people walked out of the theatre!!! looks like it was a full house.
then drove home... pretty quick getting to and back from city tonight. about 20 mins each way which makes the trip well worth it.
good times.

The good and the bad.
The fun and the reciprocal.
The monetary abd the non-monetary.
The cute and the ugly.
Managed to do everything I wanted to in addition to some extra curricular activities.
We went our for mons birthday on Saturday night. And u gave to say... I actually felt really old at the pavilion... So not my scene anymore.
And some guy tried to pick me up 4 times. Lol I guess I have to give him credit for trying??? hahaha kind if funny cause he was like you're barring me from one dance !??
YES I AM!!!
Anyhow don't like going out in the wet :-( and some other underlying issues we shall not delve into ... Reminds me why I someimes get the shits about ppl/ actions/ words vs actions
Didn't even get to sleep in on Sunday... Straight to the hospital to visit
Granda who was in great spirits. Well see how that goes after her operation today ...
In addition to that we went to visit the baby!!!! Oh he is so cut and adorable and cuddly and did I say cute???
Also went to d2ds like 4 time in the past week. Lol the owner and staff are probs like what no lifers.
Squeezed in some study and some Netball. Festival of the stars was pretty funny.
Dont feel at all recharged for Monday...

all the adults were over at 3rd uncles last night until about 3 am.
waiting..
waiting..
waiting..
waiting..
whilst we youngems were left at home. to wait for news.
call finally came through in the wee hours of the morning.
grandma had to stay overnight in emergency. so they disbanded to go home and try to get some shut eye.
by the time i was up, my parents had gone over to uncles again.
and grandma finally came home around 11ish. shaky, pale and wobblish but whole and in good health! =D
so we had a family dinner over there tonight. in good spirits. watching masterchef and the great-grandkids.
times like these to cherish~

friday. who doesnt love friday.
walking through the met centre in the morning and i don't know what ticked me off but i decided to go under the pass rather than up the escalators. GOOD GOINGG!. bumped into my TL and a couple of colleagues who were buying eggs benedict ( i have been told they are the BEST eggs benedict around) and coffee. and when i walked up to them, they all pointed outside. and i was like O_O its raining shitbuckets. and i had no umbrella. so it was the wisest move to walk underneath cause they had umbrellas. wYnner!!! epicly awesome when we all had shit to carry - coffee, breakfast, umbrella, bag, etc.. and trying to get as not wet as possible.
anyway, so much stuff to catch up and do cause we were having an early day for our "save the date" event.
the amazing race: the christmas edition
in the rain although the weather held up for the most part. good stuff. couldn't agree about the teams (they were pre-picked) but let's just say. i had the state manager on my team O_O there were both its advantages and disadvantages. and we had to wear santa hats for the duration of the race. embarassing.
anyway, so my team, cause we were *SO* enthusiastic, got to the first pit stop about 15 minutes AFTER the second last team. so we were like. oh shit, we're screwed. so we just did the race laissez-faire. cause like, there were 2 other teams that we REALLY into it. and full sprinting and taking it seriously (the prize was a half day off work).
anyway, so we get to each of the other check points in due time, managing to make up some time on the way. and LOLOL, we get to the last checkpoint and we were like, ok just tell us, we're last right? and the pit-stop-erer was like..
COMEBACK OF THE RACE!!! so we full got into in then and got all fired up and we sprinted from the argyle stairs all the way back to out building courtyard.
we ended up coming second!!! wYwYnwYn!!!
epic awesome.
the highlights at the "awards ceremony"
~ the most enthusiastic teams ended up last collectively
~ we came in second after being the underdogs the whole race
~ the team who came first almost beat the pitstoppers to their designated locations cause they were so pumped
~ one team were so temperate not to come last, they caught a cab and paid the driver $10 to go down the road (approx 500m). LOLOLOL!!! HILARIOUS.
~ we had to sing jinglebells as an incentive for the managers to double the bar tab.
ended up across the road @ the est. for drinks. we were there for 5 hours + our $500 tab ended up being around $900. LOL. there were only like.. 12 of us. and it was $5 drinks. so that was a looooooooooooooooooot of drinks.
i can't remember how many i had after about 7.. but maccas was so bloody good inbetween. we need more of these events to build team morale.
today was supposed to be another epic day. grandmas birthday. planned this pretty big event at restaurant. relos from hong kong came.
and around 5, we get dreaded phone call. they had to call an ambulance cause she has a fever and she's feeling really cold and shaking.
=( =( =( =( =(
they're still in emergency. but they say she'll be ok.
so yes, so quickly things can change. just waiting for news...

(Idina Menzel - Wicked Soundtrack - As Long As You're Mine)
So many subtle changes happen in life that are gone and forgotten. One change that I dislike is computer problems, upgrades, glitches etc. It just takes too long to update and reinstall everything and to get your settings to what they were before. Its a little like being resistant to change.
Its been a pretty rough and tumble week for me. Things happening at work and outside of work.
Most of it, you can get over (or, just smile and move on) but some takes a little longer and leave a bad feeling in your mouth... i'm so grateful for the allies/ friends i've made at work - within my own team and outside of it too. And its so comforting when more than one person says that they will support and stick up for me =D
And those who are thankful for when i help them make it that much more pleasant. Because there are quite a few pricks there who take everything i do for granted.
what pissed me off most was when my TL said
"i'm not getting involved in this"
when i said to one of them to do their own work (that I WAS NOT supposed to do). i mean, just cause u were off sick for two days doesn't mean i'm the one who has to do ur work for you. there arent any concessions - it doesn't work that way and we have processes there for a reason!!! do it urself and come to me when its ready for me to do my part!
i spent a lot of time on the phone to one of my clients this week as well as actioning over 100 of his emails. lol. he can be so funny and frustration at the same time.
my team hosted morning tea on friday as well. it was awesome because:
~ i made brownies
~ we got the right amount of food
~ we got nice food
~ there were little boys (those lil cocktail sausages that people have some weird fascination with there)
~ we made this awesome spinach, sour cream and soup mix dip
~ myself and colleague did the shopping! =D
in between catering and preparing for that, i was trying to locate a missing vehicle thats been lost for 3 months O_O
another thing that worried me a bit through the weekend was my grandma. she was in emergency for 6 hours on tuesday. =( constipation and remnants of her virus from earlier. but shes ok and on some pretty strong drugs for a month or so.
had dinner last night at the local German restaurant. Schnitzel. talked heaps. tarjay. politics. work. plans. future. road trip. paintball. chu almost killed me cause one of the poles on the gate to janices apartment broke off and slammed into me O_O i didnt even know wat hit me until like 3 seconds later... lol.
and today, we had lunch at grandmas place today - havent done that in so long with justin and aunts and uncles. grandma was so happy she ate as well =D =D
and justin and i went to visit the new franchise Paparotti on Railway Pde in Kogarah that a few of justins old HS friends opened about 3 weeks ago. Place looks good. Gave them some free marketing tips (LOL!) as well as some ideas of what i wouldve done if it was my cafe/ shop. tried their buns and coffee and bought another 10 back for the family. hahaha.
Good luck to them - their location is a little bit of a worry but we'll just see how it all goes. PapaRotti is apparently really famous in Malaysia for their coffee flavoured buns. If you're ever around, tell me to take you there one day ;)
So much planning to do. HV. Port Stephens. Birthday (?). WSS (?). Long weekend. Paintball. Port Stephens/ Road Trip. STUDYING.

spent most of my saturday at my grandmas. she's better physically but its taken quite the mental toll on her..
i have this memory instilled in my mind now. its of my 4th uncle and auntie chopping sugarcane and my grandma (in all her sickness/ disorientation) is yelling at them cause they're not doing it right. so she gets hands on and she sits next to them on these little stools at theyre side by side doing it together. =)
played with brian. he squeals heaps. and he loves running into things.
then night falls and the big question is do we go out or so we stay in?
in
out
in
out
we stayed in (BEST DECISION EVER!)
did some baking to keep myself up. girls started coming around midnight.
i dont know why val came when all she did was raid my fridge and sleep in my freshly changed bedsheets.
DNA bought over her homies - a family friend by the name of leeeeesa (lisa) and anita who really wanted a brownie.
girls get up to no good in the middle of the night.
we also did a maccas run. a pretty fail one. cause the rockdale one was closed despite it being a 24 hours drive through.
so we had to go to sansouci.
we only got 2 apple pies when we wanted 3.
there was no sundae.
and no, he couldnt offer us chocolate fudge sauce.
and i didnt get my soccer mug even though i specifically asked for one.
LIES!!!
the game was a shocker. like... annihilation. but totally not unexpected.
jan and val left before the game was even over. hahaha.
donna and anita overstayed their hospitality =P jks.
mild case of food poisoning. im guessing it was the less than ordinary maccas in the middle of the night.
i need to fix my stupid computer which means it probably needs to get brainwashed. not happy.
pictures to follow.
